Senators Clash Over Calls for Sanity and Accountability

Alejandro 'Alito' Moreno Cárdenas, senator and national leader of the PRI, has expressed his opinion about Gerardo Fernández Noroña, suggesting that he should be admitted to a psychiatric facility. These statements arose after Noroña's comments that Moreno Cárdenas should go to jail in 2027, once he has finished his time with that party. In an interview, Moreno Cárdenas stated that Noroña's words are shameful and denigrate the Senate of the Republic, even claiming they could ridicule the President of the Mexican Senate.

In his statements, Moreno Cárdenas downplayed Noroña's stance and pointed out his lack of moral and political authority. He asserted that Noroña has no shame and should be in jail, but noted that as long as he remains free, he will contribute to the disappearance of the PRI. From the Senate, a minute of silence was observed in memory of the 18 Morenistas from Oaxaca who died in an accident after participating in a rally.

Gerardo Fernández Noroña, president of the Senate's board of directors, promised to provide support to the victims' families and contact the governor of Oaxaca, Salomón Jara, to coordinate efforts. For his part, PRI senator Alejandro Moreno condemned what happened and emphasized the importance of ensuring safety at political events. In another context, he referred to the actions of the Instructional Commission of the Chamber of Deputies regarding the request for the removal of immunity of a former governor of Campeche for alleged illicit enrichment.

In response to Moreno Cárdenas' criticisms, Gerardo Fernández Noroña commented that these are just "pure nonsense" and pointed out that the PRI senator has used various epithets to refer to him. Noroña reiterated his opinion that the former governor of Campeche should be in jail, arguing that it should be so. The controversy between the two has generated a back-and-forth of statements and diverging positions.
